My first thought when I began reading Unit II was the horror of what American populations went through with measles, influenza, smallpox, typhus and African diseases like malaria and yellow fever. In my writing class my topic is “Why would parents not immunize their children: the measles epidemic.” Amazing that 2/3 of the population was wiped out by epidemics. Now, in the age of advanced medical technology, parents are deciding not to immunize their children. Measles cause blindness and death. I will be very interested to investigate why parents would take a chance on their children’s health when the medicine is available to them.
I am surprised at all of the different economies!
